Senator Schwertner Responds

TX Senator Charles SchwertnerIf you attended our November meeting, you know there was a great deal of spirited discussion with Senator Schwertner about the intersection of Hwy 71 and Old 71 as well as the current state of the Secretary of State’s voter registration system. Today, we received the following two letters from Senator Schwertner.

REGARDING ELECTIONS:
“I also understand that the program’s value has been diminished by certain functions not operating as expected or not fully meeting user needs at the time of its rollout. As a result, my office will be coordinating a meeting with the agency and local Bastrop representatives to ensure that, ahead of the 2026 election cycle, the agency heeds feedback from counties served and improves the system based on the practical challenges you’ve identified.”

REGARDING HWY 71/OLD 71
“[…] my office is organizing a meeting with TxDOT leadership to review the safety challenges at the eastern Old 71/SH 71 junction, the expected traffic impacts from ongoing development, and residents’ concerns about potential neighborhood routing. […]
I have asked TxDOT to meet directly with members of the affected community to ensure questions are answered and concerns are addressed.

We are all Charlie Kirk: 9/18/2025

Nearly 200 people attended the Bastrop County prayer vigil for Charlie Kirk. The event was organized by Bastrop County resident Chase Bradshaw. Volunteers helped with sound, signage, and prayers.

Charlie was a force who put his faith first. He encouraged youth to shed the woke teachings in high schools and colleges. He was murdered on a college campus in the midst of dialog with people who disagreed with him. Charlie didn’t just want to speak to young people, he wanted to speak with young people to give them a point of view they weren’t hearing in these educational institutions. In 2021, the Lost Pines Republican Women sponsored Charlie at an event at the Bastrop Convention Center. Charlie spoke one week before his marriage, a prime example of how hard he worked.

Visit Carol Spencer’s blog to view the video of this event put together by Thomas Nutty. The outpouring of love and gratitude for Charlie’s life around the world is amazing. An event celebrating the life of Charlie will take place on Sunday, September 21. The time is advertised as 11AM in AZ. Texas is 2 hours later, thus 1PM. This event will be live-streamed on Charlie Kirk’s Rumble account.
